"All free updates" There seems to be no difference between what the lead developer did after getting a massive cash infusion from the initial release of the game, and what the lead developer would have done if he'd won millions of dollars in the lottery. He used it to bankroll his game development habit, and just made this into the best game he possibly could. It's a lot like what the Dwarf Fortress guys do. God bless obsessives, when they find something amazing to obsess about.

  3. As always, it's worth watching the Internet Historian video on Sean (the lead) and No Man's Sky. It's an amazing story, told in a hilarious way.

"Even if they don't get it right the first time, they get it right eventually" Well, if they get a completely unexpected windfall of cash from people who initially bought into the hype that their game absolutely did not live up to at first. They really need to get new writers, though. If their fantasy is as creepy-dystopian as their scifi, I just have to hope that their player-generated (mod) mechanics are good enough for people to provide their own stories. Oh, and I'm still looking forward to "No Man's Sky: Empires" where they completely revamp the economy along the lines of EVE Online.
