  1. "These companies are future-proofing themselves from regulations" This is just making money through regulatory capture. Even if the laws are stupid. Especially if the laws are stupid -- making money in the stock market with this strategy depends on being right when others are wrong. The dumber the law, the more people will be wrong because they say, "A law that dumb would never pass". The ESG stock funds will say, "We have to pressure politicians to pass the dumbest laws possible, as long as we get advanced notice of them."
