Tree farmers in the Santa Clara Valley (so it was known before they cut down all the orchards and called it Silicon Valley) referred to the trees as "You-clipped-us" (you cheated us) trees, because they weren't marketable, and poisoned the ground around them.

@VVayVVard - if the grasses could be made to sink to the bottom in a deoxygenated environment, that would effectively sequester the carbon (and whatever other elements) they contain.

$8B isn't really that much money, when it comes to energy infrastructure. A single nuclear plant (with all its attendant paperwork) can cost $20B.

7:30 I can't help but question the 19,600 TWh number. To put it in perspective, the per-capita primary energy consumption in the US is 25,155 TWh. Are we seriously to believe that irrigating the entire Sahara could be accomplished with less energy production than a single American requires in a year? Something doesn't sound right, here.
