  1. Fast growing, yes. But not straight enough for lumber. Tree farmers in the Santa Clara Valley (so it was known before they cut down all the orchards and called it Silicon Valley) referred to the trees as "You-clipped-us" (you cheated us) trees, because they weren't marketable, and poisoned the ground around them.

  2.  @VVayVVard  - if the grasses could be made to sink to the bottom in a deoxygenated environment, that would effectively sequester the carbon (and whatever other elements) they contain.

  3. 7:30 I can't help but question the 19,600 TWh number. To put it in perspective, the per-capita primary energy consumption in the US is 25,155 TWh. Are we seriously to believe that irrigating the entire Sahara could be accomplished with less energy production than a single American requires in a year? Something doesn't sound right, here.
