Just don't read the books, they're Woke sewage.

@schaefsky I'm not convinced you ever read them. At one point they have a planet that actually produces antibodies to kill the human settlers like they were some kind of disease. At another point they have a completely pacifist system that destroys all kinetics. The narrative editorializing in the books -- thankfully absent in the show -- is as Woke as anything you'll ever read. PC as all get-out. BUT, they toned it down massively for the TV show, and it's being hailed as the best-kept secret in SciFi. Well, that's because the books never really took off with the SciFi crowd, because of their blatant political bias. If they'd maintained that tone in the TV show, the show would have gone the way of Star Trek Discovery.

Probably because people who would like the show, read a couple of the books and said, "This is WAY too Woke for me". Seriously, the show is so much less Woke than the books -- it's why the show is praised so much, but it didn't have a reading fanbase that liked it enough to make it popular.

Just don't read the books, they're Woke garbage.

@tommaguzzi1723 Did you actually read these books? They're Woke AF. This is what happens when you downplay the Woke angle until it's nearly undetectable.
2
You didn't hear about it because the books are Woke AF, so they didn't generate much of a fanbase. The showrunners must not have read them, or else they read them and said to themselves, "We'll go broke unless we de-Woke this trash."

No, because there are very few showrunners out there who have the sense to say, "This source material is way too Woke, we have to make it more like SciFi used to be or we'll go broke."

@furiousmat "Humans are the real virus", monogamous heterosexuality is (unlike in reality) not the norm, all of the cases where tokenism is "done right" in the show is done wrong in the books... the fact that you don't even notice means either you should get your head out of your hindquarters if you don't want Wokeness to last any longer than it has to, or that you're part of the problem in the first place.

@furiousmat Pull out your Woke bingo card. You will check every box, in every book.

@furiousmat By the way, when "cultural norms" stray too far from reality (one generation follows after another according to the same mechanics they always have) that culture dies. It's just not credible to see today's fads, lasting more than a couple of generations. The more prevalent they get, the sooner they disappear.

@furiousmat Human reproduction is a static thing. At the core of each succeeding generation is a set of parents, and those parents become parents in the same way that their parents became parents, etc. Cultures change, yes -- but cultures that forget the realities of human reproduction, die off. The future belongs to those who show up. The most realistic thing about the books, is the fact that the Mormons are the ones surviving and thriving into the future. Is that the culture I'd prefer? Not really. But they recognize the generation-to-generation reality of the human condition, just like religions have for thousands of years. Honestly. Get yourself a Woke Bingo card -- positivity about sex work, minority representation checkboxes, Green madness -- and you'll fill it in each book. This being TCD I'd recommend a drinking game, but I'm afraid that would kill you.

This is what happens if you take the source material and make it LESS Woke. =) Seriously, a LOT less Woke. The books are drivel.
