We're playing defense, yes. We need to go back on the offense.

Why do you need chaos? Because no order humans have produced, no matter how beneficial, is ever perfect, and that human beings are all too capable of setting up order that is not beneficial. Personally I lean very heavily towards order (especially the order discovered by, or given to, our ancestors). These days those types of order are being thoughtlessly replaced by people who don't understand why the fences are there in the first place (see GK Chesterton). Understanding that their version of order is less beneficial overall than older forms of order, some level of chaos is going to be necessary to get us back on track.

We will not start winning the global war for liberty, until we spread the 2nd amendment worldwide as well as the first.

When should people take a stand? Well, traditionally "Prudence" is a virtue that tells you when to enact the other virtues. And to that the British person answers, "Do your bit."

"Hey hey ho ho Western Civ has got to go" -- It's even worse now - only about 20% of students wanted it back, when they asked a few years ago. Without something the West is truly fighting for, the only thing that motivates people to competitively fight is to try to topple the West out of 1st place. We need to find that inspiration, or people will keep being inspired by more and more nonsensical, self-contradictory, demonstrably pathological ideologies.

The younger generation of Americans has never truly seen a scenario where everyone has to do without, because no one is producing whatever it is that people want. They've forgotten how the shoes get on the shelves, how the food comes out of the ground, how the buildings get built, how people get motivated and organized to go about the business of doing all these things.

Orwell's experiences in the BBC and with the POUM in Catalonia drove him to write this book. A lot of this is just extrapolating from events and trends he had already experienced at the hands of socialists.

@FunnyLittleFella ?? The POUM were anarcho-socialists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POUM The BBC, well, they were a bureaucratic nightmare at least, if not out-and-out socialist. Perhaps it's more accurate to tie the habit of damnatio memoriae to Soviet practices.
