A few years ago at least, Impossible tasted pretty good. One of their chemists would hang out at the same place I did, and she would bring Impossible to dinners. She was a total sweetheart and completely understood that it had to taste good if people were going to buy it. I don't know if they changed their recipe, after she moved on to another job. I guess they just never were able to bring the prices down like they thought they could.

@ShihoinY I didn't have it in burger form, it was part of a taco-night buffet. She fixed it with onions (and I think salt), and it tasted pretty good, even without the rest of the taco stuff. It was a bit lighter than actual beef (I'm not sure how else to describe it) so you could tell it wasn't. It was like some of the better tofu "sausages", I guess. It wasn't so awful as "veggie patties" which literally never showed up on the table of these not-terribly-cost-conscious vegetarians. Instead of complaining about there not being meat at these get-togethers, I'd bring a few pounds of tri-tip or salmon to roast. Even in Silicon Valley, a lot of people thanked me for it. The vegetarians were very gracious about it too. I never ran into any of the militant kinds, they were mostly concerned that they wouldn't eat anything with meat in it by mistake. "Everything here is vegetarian, except what obviously isn't" was convenient for everyone, instead of color-coding or labeling the dishes in a way that had to be explained every time.

@silverchairsg I couldn't say, I look at the price these days and I just haven't gotten around to bothering to try it again.

@Theranthrope You could taste the salt. I don't know if that was straight out of the package or added later.

@Theranthrope Eh, it's a matter of personal taste.
