We've dealt with the Industrial Revolution (Capitalism vs. Communism), "How do we maximize the production and distribution of industrially-generated material wealth?" answer: the market-economic welfare state. We are now dealing with the Information Revolution, (Authoritarian Bureaucracy vs. Liberty-minded Democracy), "How do we maximize the production and distribution of expertise?" History hasn't ended, it's just entered a new phase. We're fighting a new Cold War, and unfortunately the forces of Liberty-minded Democracy are on the back foot, as our governments are infested with Authoritarian Bureaucrats.
