More Klavan on Lotus Eaters!

If I could only be on streaming video for five minutes a week, I would watch Klavan's opening monologue and nothing else -- even if it didn't run the whole five minutes.

"In the 90's, atheism was something that was inflicted on me, not something I chose." That's a remarkable thing to say. We have "cradle atheists" now?

I don't always agree with him either, but I deeply respect his rationales for his ideas, even if I don't weight them the same as he does.

"The printing press wasn't dangerous" Pamphleteering had its fascinations and its risks.

@ThursonJames Matt's more of a slow burn, and needs more than five minutes a week to appreciate. I absolutely admire what he's getting out there and doing in the wider world, though. SBG is going to be instrumental in getting our country back on track. I'm looking forward to it.

"The war on the genders is so important and so worth fighting back - and again, I want to fight it back without being unkind to [certain] people" It could well be that G*d made Spencer is who he is because He needed Klavan to be who he is here. Christ insists that we must be kind to everyone, and unless we can see some of us with a non-negotiable relationship -- like between a father and a son -- we could forget just who is included in "everyone".

"The Right doesn't have a good elevator pitch - do these things for a long time, and things will be better" The Right believes elevator pitches are overrated, quite naturally.

"The printing press led to the 30 Years' War" Because without the printing press, the Hapsburgs would never have tried to unite Germany and conquer Europe? Or maybe, they would never have had the Spanish throne and all the precious metals from the New World, that allowed them to support such a war? Re-Catholicization was just an excuse. As usual, Caesar's Gallic Wars (both the act, and the documentation afterwards) had FAR more to do with imperial ambitions and their execution than the Bible ever did.
