  1. To nail down the Christmas-in-December thing, you can track your way through two pregnancies and a Jewish liturgical calendar. Zechariah (a Jewish priest in ~1 BC) didn't believe his wife Elizabeth could get pregnant at their age. He was wrong about this in a way that irritated God, and was stricken dumb. This rendered him unable to perform the priestly duties of his specific order at that specific time of year. Elizabeth, hearing about her cousin Mary (yes, that Mary) getting pregnant as well, visits with her while she's a ways along, and baby John does some pre-natal gymnastics upon coming close to the One whose sandals he was unworthy to untie. The Bible has a some specific details about the time hacks involved there, but when you work it all out, it puts Mary due in December.
