Accents can give a work some exotic charm, when you're being pushed a little bit outside your linguistic comfort zone. Howard Pyle's "The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood" is a work I enjoyed for this reason. The nautical jargon of O'Brien's Aubrey and Maturin series was fun too.

Hold on, San Francisco has its own dialect? Really?

By the way, Scrooge McDuck has a Scots accent because Scots are supposed to be cheap. Don't tell Disney though, they might cancel him because that's racist or something. =(

Question for the weebs: What is the honorific "-dono", like Kenshin calls Kaoru? Where does that fit in the -sama / -san / -kun / -chan hierarchy?

How do you get through a video on accents without citing Kipling even once? Another interesting movie that mapped the diversity of accents of a large, semi-imperial country was "The Death of Stalin". I'm still waiting for the live-action version of the Gospels that gives everyone from Galilee a New Jersey accent. (Snarky, snobbish comments like "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" came from somewhere, after all.)
