Marx was left in the dustbin of history, because he thought the dialectic would stop. Capitalism and communism synthesized, as the dialectic said they would, into the democratic market-economic welfare state. Like Marx in past centuries, a thinker of this century (Francis Fukuyama) declared "the end of history". But again, the dialectic moves on. Against the Cold War 1 synthesis, arose its antithesis -- the authoritarian bureaucracy. This is championed by the CCP mandarins of China, although it has variations in other formerly communist countries. Worst of all (from the perspective of freedom) it has a variation in the United States as well. We call it "the Deep State". Trump is hardly irrelevant. He is the first hero of Cold War 2, fighting to turf out the Deep State so freedom can be firmly re-established in America, so that authoritarianism has some opposition in the world.

So I guess it would be more proper to call the ones who killed off 99% of the indigenous by even more dehumanized names -- viruses and plagues. They were not human. Our "elites" -- from the Walton family to the Biden family -- are too busy getting rich off of China deals, to bother with the fact that competition from cheap (often sl*ve) labor in China is destroying our working class (and with them, the country). Wolff, if you're seriously a friend of the working man, you can't be a friend of China. This is where the rubber meets the road -- if you like socialism because you like working people and think they should get a fair shake, you're against China. If you like socialism because it's a centralized authority telling others what to do and you want in, you're for China. Alternatively, you could be pro-China simply because you hate the United States (workers, business, the whole lot) and want to see us fail. There's a lot of evidence for that thesis throughout this interview, 45 minutes in.

"Trump is not telling us anything that will help" On the contrary, it's clear that China's rise is primarily a function of their support of Wal-Mart's habit of dumping cheap Chinese goods on American consumers, to the point that all our factories close down and go to China. I think you don't understand quite how much "The Rich" in America, are conspiring with China to drive China's rise and America's decline. A tariff would fix this very quickly. It would recognize that we are not the last-man-standing that we were after WW2, and it would help our working class recover.
