  1. Yeah, if he's unaware that right across the straits from Yemen is Djibouti, where a large number of countries in the world (including the Chinese) have remote naval bases for coordinated anti-pirate missions, he really hasn't done his homework on this one.

Yes, but he doesn't seem to be aware that other nations of the world, from Europe to South Korea to China, have bases in Djibouti (just across the straits from Yemen) to support counter-piracy operations. It's a little disappointing when I know more about the lay of the land than he does, in a given situation.

  4. Hey! The US Navy protecting global shipping! That's pretty cool, that's their job, right Peter? What are the rest of the navies of the world doing, from their bases in Djibouti? Isn't that the whole point of having them there?
