  1. The solution is cultural. Deeply religious demographics are still having kids, and they can inspire even the non-religious to have families too (as in Israel). It's almost as if being anti-religious is a mistake.

  2. You know, if pay rates were higher here in America, more Americans would be having kids. And, if the border were anything other than the free-for-all that it is now, we'd be able to successfully interdict various forms of pharmaceuticals coming up from Mexico. So... a closed border would help with all of these problems.

  5. As countries lose their religion, population declines. Countries who also suffer from wars (the Koreas, Germany, Japan) have a double-whammy.

We need to prioritize our economy to serve the following goal: The average guy can get the average job and buy the average house, marry the average girl and have (more or less) two or three kids, then stick together for life so they can help with their grandchildren. Anything else isn't sustainable.

  9.  @jeanlamb5026  Mostly it's just weird, because it has little or nothing to do with this conversation thread. Were you intending to reply to a different one? As for its goodness or badness, trying to make every conversation about at best tangentially irrelevant historical grievances, is a bad thing. We're probably going to see some rebalancing of "rights" in the near future. Most countries suffering from demographic collapse are heavily committed to prenatal infanticide. The rights of those babies to live, are going to be prioritized. The cultural practices necessary to support that (advocating for strong marriages, continence, and the like) may look "Victorian" to some, but I don't think women are going to be denied credit cards or medical school acceptance on the basis that they're women, though. The 1960's sexual revolution has been around long enough, chalked up so many failures, damaged so many people, and benefited so few, that we're going to see those "rights" disappear over the next few election cycles. Into the recycling bin of history it goes!

  11. Yeah, the fact that both Russia and Ukraine have collapsing demographics make it a bit puzzling to me, as to why demographic collapse in Russia would affect their contest with Ukraine.

  15.  @thomasgrabkowski8283  Yup. The trend towards big families there was led by the most devout, and the rest of society followed along. It's almost as if respecting your people's traditional religion has benefits, even if you don't happen to believe it yourself.

  21.  @tuckerbugeater  Yes, but he likes being right too much, to sacrifice too much of his credibility. I'd give at least 12 to 7 odds that if he had to choose between telling the truth because it would make him look good and telling a lie because it would make his "masters" look good, he'd go with the truth.
