"[Trump] wasn't sitting in a bar in Queens, talking to his friends." How many of these "cognitive elites" would be caught dead in a bar in Queens?

It's absolutely heartwarming to hear someone with John Anderson's demeanor, talking about keeping political debate alive.

"You can't become an instant expert on anything" The closest you can get is to study history, because they've seen this before. ;)

Re: the NYT and "where the h**l was the editor" -- watch a recent interview with Bari Weiss, if you want a straightforward explanation and case study of what happened there.

@rudevol8355 We all have to do out bit to spread the word far and wide. Our "elites" and chattering classes in America (and most of the rest of the world, in fact) think their bread is buttered on the same side as the Authoritarian Bureaucrats. They will not speak up on our behalf -- just the opposite, in fact. We don't control any of the levers of power, except the ones in the voter booth (and the vote-counts there are deeply suspicious) -- but we CAN also speak out. We HAVE to speak out, or we're going to find ourselves serfs, again.

@rudevol8355 Nope, it's never too late. The only question is, how much damage they can do before we win. Which is why we need to speak up NOW. =)

Are you sure it's the people lying to the pollsters, and not the pollsters lying to try to push an agenda?

@HugoJL I remember the late 80's, when we thought it would be cool to have a snarky president. Apparently, so does Trump, and most of his base.

@majorbarbara1 Unless you want votes to stop mattering ever, you have to keep voting. You've basically found the problem you have to fix. You need to find ways to help uncover voter fraud. There are ways to get involved with your local political parties and your local elections. Go and DO that. There's only one candidate on that ballot -- the leading Democrat -- who benefits from fraud. Every other candidate on that ballot would benefit from YOUR help, in making sure voter fraud doesn't happen. It's not hope that's lost; it's our ability to just sit in our own basements and count on everything to be allright, that's lost. There is no reason to stop hoping, but every reason to START ACTING.

Kotkin is the only urbanist worth listening to.

@georgefurman4371 The "Freedom of Speech" GOP, fascist? You're crazy, or deliberately misrepresenting things. The GOP is going Libertarian. It's certainly the only refuge left in America, for people who like traditional American freedoms.
2
@georgefurman4371 Lol, now it's obvious you're trolling. =) Have fun!

@antonijaume8498 Do you actually believe what you're typing, or are you simply unaware of anything that's happening in the world today?
2
@antonijaume8498 ... I don't think for an instant that you're aware of how people think, who call themselves Libertarian. Slavery exists today, sure. Mostly it's facilitated by Democrats who want to get police to ignore "sex work", and by Democrats who leave countries in absolute chaos (like Libya, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in Afghanistan too.) I'm not sure how you connect any of that with Libertarians, who are against slavery possibly more than anything else.
2
@georgefurman4371 If you're unfamiliar with traditional American freedoms, I refer you to the Bill of Rights. We can have a more constructive conversation after you've read that.
1
@georgefurman4371 George, are you one of the people Angela is referring to, with a degree that has not prepared you to be useful in a meritocratic system? It certainly sounds so, with your throwing around terms like "white supremacy" and Marxist slogans.

@trevorbailey1486 Yes, good luck to all of us, and God help us all follow the example of goodwill and dignity that Hon. John Anderson AO maintains here.

"The History of Futurism" -- I'd love to see that class! Back in 1990, James Burke (a historian I otherwise respect greatly for his work on the history of innovation) produced a piece on Global Warming for the BBC. It predicted that we would have a 15-25 degree Fahrenheit rise in global temperatures by 2020. Oh, and the Japanese (with the aid of supercomputers) would be ruling the world. I find this documentary very encouraging. Apparently we already know the strategy for preventing catastrophic global warming -- doing nothing much at all about it.
