  1. Why is Putin paying so much attention to Ukraine? It seems to me more in line with Russia's historical foreign policy and present-day interests, that resource-rich Russia should be trying to set up buffer states between themselves and resource-hungry, up-and-coming China. I think that the West would be well advised to help him establish Russian sphere of influence buffer states in the independent countries of Tibet, Sinkiang, Greater Mongolia, and Manchuria.
