"The Russian space is the worst farmland in the world." -- Right, the famous "Steppes of Central Asia". The world has greened over the last few decades, mostly in arid regions (like the steppe). Apparently an area the size of the continental United States is now green, that was not green before. How much of this is in Russia?

The problem is, the ground stations are expensive both in terms of acreage and money.

Only, isn't that equally true of every other country in that region? The trick, it would seem to me, is some form of federalism that means if you're one of those countries you've got security cooperation with the rest, but not at the cost of being ruled by some a**hole from Moscow or Berlin or Khanbalik (or Warsaw, or Kaunas). (Warsaw is an interesting case. They have exactly the same motivation now, that Prussia did post-30-Year's-War, to develop a highly militarized culture. It maybe seems absurd today, but honestly who would have thought Prussia would grow up to cause such trouble?)

It seems to me that there is a non-zero chance for a clever diplomat to craft a deal with Russia, that would give them more through peace than they could ever hope to gain through war.
