If we have a mask factory in (say) North Dakota and that goes down, we rely on the other mask factory we have in (say) Arkansas. We already are an inter-state supply chain.

44:27 -- Cochrane, are you sure you're an economist? The reason we don't have the foreign exchange to build ports in Africa is because we spend too much of it buying cheap goods from China. "Thank you for depriving us of the wherewithal to act on the international stage"? "Thank you for enervating us"? You really need to go back and re-examine your thought processes here.

The Great 21st Century Global Supply Chain War China is currently offshoring some of its own production, because China is becoming expensive. (Wuhan rent ~$600/mo; Omaha Nebraska rent ~$1000/mo). I think that the ultimate contest may be between two global supply trees. (Or three, if Germany / the EU heads one). Proxy Wars will involve building spheres of economic and cultural-political influence.
