What's Going on With Shipping?

Another great video Sal. Some interesting comments about 'electric power' in general but when you factor in the risk from EV fires this has to be dealt with eventually; the concept is brilliant in my opinion. You raise a good point about nasty coal as the current recharging source. Scaled up, I wonder if the 'battery exchange station' could someday be around the oceans at a wind farm recharge centres?

Brilliant comment!

That's very well thought out and presented. I concur - this is like the Apollo Program compared to Starship... It's a start. A pretty smart one I think.

I think the freight in the TEU's is the training-grounds. I'm sure they would have dedicated cranes and perhaps crew to focus on this part - as others deal with the load. So many different types of rechargeable solutions / gels being tested now. Some are quite robust.

@Puchacz81 okay - acknowledged. But really - not much difference than swapping out huge numbers of batteries in commercial plants - for electric vehicles of all type - like fork lifts. Some warehouses have them running three shifts a day and they just come in to the shop to swap out the battery when needed - like going to a gas station to fill your truck with petrol or diesel. Risks - sure. Early days. But they will be surmounted as the technology improves. Yes - a pain in the butt now - and some additional risks for mid ocean incident (not unlike many IC powered vessels). Ship - happens. We will adjust. "Embrace the Technology!"

@Puchacz81 Final words on this - not to put too fine a point on it... Yes - you can compare battery packs - - it just has to scale up - and it will. Container forklifts dockside have a capacity of over 100,000 lbs - just scale. - also fair to compare ICE to EV - ICE equipped machines caused lots of serious fires - it's all bad - it's all possible - but by embracing the technology - before it's perfect - we help the bleeding edge, move past leading edge - to the everyday.
