No such thing as a dangerous level crossing, i worked for Notwork rail for 15 years, manned barriers and done track patrols, the only danger, are the idiots that don't think, at line speed, it takes a train 1 mile (ONE MILE) to come to a stop

@denbaker7358 imagine passengers in the back of your car, the driver at the point of impact would find it impossible to gently apply the foot brakes, so imagine 100's of people not wearing a seat belt at line speed, it doesn't bear thinking about

@c.s-crossings No, and that's because there are thousands of level crossings, most unmanned, most in rural areas are deliberately left open, you have half barriers where you're always get a driver snaking his way across the crossing, a full level crossing that can be closed to traffic but not to people. A few years ago NR were supposed to disable the pedestrian while the barrier was down. This was sadly after two young girls were splattered at Elsenham railway station, on the down road a train was in the station, they walked through the gate blind side to the up road were the express train killed both girls. There was also talk about going under or over a crossing, but as i said, there are thousands
