  2. Zane Huseth Have you read Ron Paul's book on the gold standard? Do you even understand what it is? And don't you understand that human creatures have been living under the gold standard a heck of a lot longer that any fiat currency standard?

  3. jsgdk Do you believe libertarians are in charge of the US right now? You would have to be delusional to believe such a thing. Federal spending continues to climb, and yes, we are heading towards fascism because of that. And in Europe, where is the austerity? Which governments are decreasing spending?

  4. Sam seems dismissive when someone talks about the inherent value of gold, yet the truth is gold has retained its intrinsic value for thousands of years, yet fiat currency always dies. The average lifespan of fiat currency is 26 years. Gold, like iron, like any commodity, has an intrinsic value. Paper money has no permanent intrinsic  value, and therefore at some point becomes worthless. Sam, name the point where gold or iron becomes worthless.

  5. There are degrees of freedom in the market. Decades ago the market was much freer, but regulations heaped upon regulations at every level of government has encumbered the market hugely. Compliance costs for small businesses topped $2 trillion in 2010. That's a tax on all of us, an so is the increasing money supply, which diminishing our buying power. Organized crime loves prohibition - Capone and the drug cartels love it.
