Alex BS the idea of superiority of that kind doesn't exist until atleast 50 years after Finland was lost to Sweden and the tornedalian Finns who ended up on the Swedish side of the border have never been targeted the way that the sami for an example were. Swedes were never seen as superior the nobles who granted were Swedes saw themselves as superior to all peasants. But a peasent was a peasent. Just as Swedes were settled in Finnland so were Finns settled in Sweden. Usually in the warf industry since the Finns were considered great woodworkers.

NATO could take on the entire rest of the world simultaneously and would atleast on paper come out victorious. The U.S. alone spends more than a quarter of the total global defence spending. I'm sorry but the United States overspends so incredulously much on its military that it is beyond comprehension, but the result is that there is no one power or coalition of powers that could ever win a war against them. Their defence spending is the result of rampant paranoia, but for the moment it makes them invulnerable.

The Russian empire ceased to exist more than 100 years ago, the USSR ceased to exist 30 years ago, and the Baltic countries have never been part of the modern state of Russia. As for Hitler I would remind you that the nazis and for that matter Charles XII of Sweden, another of those failed ivnasions of Russia that you seem so fond of, didn't fail at invading Russia they failed at Invading Ukraine. Exactly what you stand poised to do. Ukraine is the graveyard of the ambitions of so many would be conquerors.

Yet you would be right about borders being formed by war if the USSR had formally declared war on the Baltic states and been given them as a result of a formal peace treaty, but neither happened. The USSR just moved their troops in and declared that theese idnependent states were no more. No declaration of war and no formal peace treaty. They had no right to do so and it's not within the power of the allies to sign the independence of these states away. That's why the baltic states enver needed the permission of the Soviet union to secceed from the union. Because they were never lawfully part of the union, their were simply occupied by force. And what happened in 1990 was them evicting the 50 year illegal occupation by the USSR.

The old commonwealth countries don't view it with such nostalgia as Poland does so I doubt Ukraine and Lithuania would join either. The EU would not accept Poland waging a war of annexation and Germany has no interest in those cities because while they were once German the population there is now Polish. Only a handful of Germans who actually lived there are still alive. Far more likely Kaliningrad and Karelia would be released as independent states under EU protection. Belarus may end up in a similar position. It's the German strategy in the east from ww1. Release a bunch of independent nations and then prop them up in a way that lets you influence them and that stops Russia from retaking them.

Bulgaria and Serbia perhaps but Croatia Bosnia and Slovenia would never turn to Russia, they may have bad experiences of being under Turkish rule but their most recent bad experiences are of being under Serbian rule which is effectively what Russia would ensure. I would say the west Balkan countries are much more likely to turn to Italy or France for support than to Russia. Perhaps even Germany.

Why did a canal why not just build it on top of the ground (kind of like an aqueduct) and then have locks on the sides where you pump in water to raise boats to the level of the "canal" and lower them back down. I mean you'd have locks at the ends anyway and this way you'd save trillion in the cost of digging it. A cheaper canal would mean that repaying the loans to china would be a lot more feasibly and reduce the risk of it being a problem. And also you wouldn't use the same route as the proposed canal so if you wanted to you could always build that too from the profits of the aqueduct.

Also soft power is not just culture and culture is not just food. Also you don't need to actually have people eat the food for it to have an impact, look at how Americans joke about pickled herring that is presence and presence is soft power. If you look at the equally prosperous Netherlands you find a lot less knowledge about dutch cuisine than about Swedish cuisine. Also the US is one country New York one city, you personal experiences are exactly that, personal. And some countries may be like that but Sweden ranks top three on the democracy index so you must be thinking about other countries, as an american you probably shouldn't speak you lot are listed as a flawed democracy at 25th place. The Swedish justice systems is one of the fairest in the world according to every NGO who measures these things. As for the specifics of this case i am not particularly familiar with the specifics, there's no reason for me to be, I know our justice system works so I don't have to be. And actually a study a few years back showed Sweden was the per capita most influential country in the EU (that's the other study I mentioned in my last post), for reasons such as the weight of a vote in the EU parliament, average importance of the commission jobs given (the EU commissioners are like the ministers of most countries, but one is chosen from each country and since there has to be 28 of them the actual weight of the post differs a lot) and diplomatic influence. Think of us as like the swing states in the US, we're not populous but we're often kingmakers because we aren't perceived to have completely thrown our lot in with any side in particular. And again I'm not seeing any evidence refuting the study in the video. You can argue all you want but arguing proves nothing evidence is the only thing that matters, Shirvan's got it you don't.

Hitler proved that static defences are virtually useless when the enemy has tanks and bombers. Gallipoli may have been impossible to take in 1915 but in 2017 the defences on the shore would be annihilated by aircraft from aircraft carriers paratroopers would have made outer ring defences pointless. While Turkey guarded besarabia and the iron gates their enemies would simply have airdropped their forces unto the Bulgarian plain. Taking and holding land which would be rebellious for natural boundaries of questionable use would be foolish.

  412. I think you miss a fundemantal apsect there, Saudi arabia has soldiers of it's own but they are drawn exclusively from the Najd people, the people the ruling dynasty comes from. It's not (at least not only) that they don't trust their military it's that they don't trust the other tribes of the country to be part of their military.

But the very fact that they are resource economies hold them back, they have no need to empower the people and all that cash flow looks very attractive to any would be authoriarian leader which means you end up with a cycle of appeasement.
