Not to mention cobalt is far from the only mineral in cobalt batteries nor are cobalt batteries the only battery design . Sure they're one of the best right now but if China tried to hog all the world's cobalt then other designs would be pursued.

Isn't switzerland the highest one in the world though? Also you would be better off comparing median standards of living. That is what a median wage can buy in the country.

@youriefavre9003 hence why the buying power of the median salary is such a good metric. Of course it doesnt take the existence of any public welfare systems into account but it's the best option I've seen this far.

@Snow Cone on the contrary low GDP per capita means your money is not really endemic tot he country but rather in the hands if of a few wealth individuals who may very well leave an those their money with them at any point.

@Snow Cone if you have a high GDP but a low GDP per capita then you do have high income inequality.

@Snow Cone yes but if the gdp per capita is low then that means your average people doesn't get any of the money if your high GDP. Yes high GDP per capita doesn't mean they do either look at the US for an example which has a high GDP per capita but also high wealth disparity. But getting a high GDP per capita is the first bar you need to clear to be able to get it down. And also China does have massive wealth disparity.

@Snow Cone well of course they have fewer millionaires what China lacks is middle class and millionaires are upper middle class. China does however have a incredibly wealthy class of multibillionaires.

China is big but if they try to be best at everything they'll end up being best at nothing. Free trade works because we all do what we are good at and leave it to others to do other things. The free trade world will outpace China if China tries to go mercantilistic. I sweden we have a proverb, ensam är stark, alone is strong, essentially that vlbeing dependent is a weakness, but that's a lie, alone is not strong alone is just isolated. And isolation is death.

Burning City we did do stuff like that. And you know what it got us? It ended up undermining our belief in the value of human life back home too and then we destroyed ourselves sin the two bloodiest wars the world has ever seen, from which we have yet to, and might never, recover.
