@northeuropeantaxpayer7097 Me? I'm German.

No, they got freed from all debt at the end of ww1. As a sort of compensation for the fact that the allies invaded and occupied them illegally during the war.

Modern greek culture has very little to do with ancient greek culture.
2
@lamdawave easier to rise when you're not on the top.

Not the same state, and barely the same people.
2
@johnvictorengland7703 Greece lied about it's financial viability.

@northeuropeantaxpayer7097 You have a very Irish name for a supposed German.

@northeuropeantaxpayer7097 Well thank you captain hindsight for that analysis of what should have been done differently I am sure it is great sure to future time travellers. What's done is done and we must deal with what is not what ought to have been. And forcing Greece into austerity to repay these loans slows down the entire Eurozone, which costs us a lot more than just giving them the damn money. Let's just forget about these repayments so that the people of Greece can get back to buying German made products again. That is in our enlightened selfintrest.

@icmull Germany invaded Poland and the Soviet union but in the west it was the allies which declared on it. And as for Greece it was at war with Italy long before Germany got dragged in.
2
That's not quite true though, he skimmed over all the stuff that happened with greece in ww1.

They didn't always have a choice though, take ww1 as an example Greece got invaded by the allies because it's King was seen as to close to the German Kaiser (while still being neutral).
1
That's not how it happened.
1
Economically not much, more happened at the end of ww1.

Here's someone who knows his stuff.
1
@northeuropeantaxpayer7097 And you grew up in Germany?
1
How about the millions and millions you borrowed with the EU as security?

Random Person That would have been up to the soviet union, they certainly saw a huge amount of war reparations from Germany. If they didn't share with Poland that is hardly Germany's fault.
1
Random Person I think you misunderstood my comment.

Their old loans were cleared at the end of ww1.
