  2.  @itzikashemtov6045  Actually if the modernists had had their way Iran would have left the south east asia treaty organisation (SEATO, NATO' pacific and Indian ocean counterpart) and been neutral in the cold war, that is why the US couped in the Shah as a dictator. I'm not denying the theocratic regime is worse than the monarchist one but it is incorrect to pretend that the regime that directly preceded the theocracy was the most democratic that Iran had ever been. Of course gradual reforms of the Shahs regime would have been far better than the revolution. Who knows maybe one day the Shahs will return to Iran.
