  44. Seems like Sam and his viewers are a bit uninformed on Lessig. From what I've been told Lessig plans to get elected, do major reforms then resign his presidency to his vice. Lessig/Sanders 2016, anyone? Because a lot of cynical Sanders "supporters" argue his positions are noble but he can't make many of his policies work without help, such as maybe reforming the political system so that can happen, which is basically what Lessig is all about.

  168. Ukraine was actually created by the Mongol invasion which split the original Russia, ya know, the one without all the territories to the east that they later imperialized. The Ukrainian language developed after that. Before that, Kiev was the seat of power in original Russia, AKA the Kievan Rus. Which is where Putin gets his, "they're just Russians" line from. This is why it's a shame that China, Russia and the U.S. are nuclear nations. They should all be invaded and split into smaller countries with more uniform cultures. And if it wasn't for the nuclear threat, that's probably what NATO would be doing right now to Russia. Then they could possibly do China, and then kick the U.S. out and do them. Alas, they're all too powerful, especially China and the U.S.. Maybe diplomatic pressure might eventually get the job done?

  173. Yeah, that was disappointing. The episode on recycling was weird too. Like they pointed out that you didn't need much space for landfills, which is pretty dumb. I get that with some things like glass and aluminium cans they can actually degrade over time but plastic doesn't, so we really should be recycling plastic. Some episodes were good though. Depended on the subject matter really.

  174. Yeah, that's not the case though.. Both Sam and other commentators such as Kyle Kulinski have more depth of knowledge and analysis than the majority of the people Joe has on his podcast. It's a real shame he won't have them on, because he keeps repeating talking points that just aren't true, and belie the true nature of the political spectrum.. He really needs to have Kyle Kulinski on to school him on the Overton window, and the actual extent of the political spectrum.

It's an economic issue, first of all, and as far as it being left wing on that basis it surely is because it increases "economic democracy" which is less "authoritarian" as far as economics goes, and as far as it being socially authoritarian, and hence actually authoritarian leftist, actually depends on the popularity of it within the zeitgeist of the polity. If the vast majority of people agree with it, it's not really that authoritarian at all, and fits on the libertarian left. If only a minority agree with it, but the state still implements it, only then can you put it on the authoritarian left.
