I agree with the ridicule of Ford's ancestors here, but to be fair, in the movie William Ford was portrayed as slightly more kind than the other slave owner Edwin Epps, played by Michael Fassbender. But yeah, owning humans and forcing them to work is pretty terrible to begin with, no matter how well you treat them.
