If he's criticizing Venezuela because he thinks they are socialist and this is why socialism goes too far, then that sounds like he's coming from a more right-wing perspective, yet the majority of Venezuela's economy is still private, so they're barely social democrat, and yet Pakman calls himself a social democrat. Then he's probably try to claim that Venezuela is authoritarian, but it's a democratically elected government, so whatever authoritarianism has been used at a judicial level is warranted based on what the people voted for, so it's a bit less authoritarian than he thinks they are. And Pakman would probably try and claim that as a left-wing critique because he calls the authoritarian and libertarian ends of the social spectrum as right wing and left wing respectively, which is stupid, because he should just call them what they are.

My parents did choose to have children, so they should be able to pay the taxes it takes to give me a tertiary education organized by the state. I would also choose to pay those taxes as an adult myself, even though I don't have children, I would want other people's children to have the intellectual capability of understanding the immense responsibility of having children.

First of all, social democrats might as well be democratic socialists lite, and as far as right wingers are concerned, especially the far-right, that's socialist according to them, even center-right is socialist to them, because you still have a social safety net, albeit a punitive one, they still don't like that and want that gone. Then you've got this stuff about Venezuela, which has an economy that is still majority in private hands, so it's barely a social democracy, being authoritarian, is actually not, and is actually a democratic regime. David seems misinformed on that, and given what it actually is, he should be criticizing that regime from the economic left, not the economic right, as he seems to be.
