  13. Tell me about it. I'm a German Studies major, lived in Berlin for a year in 2011. And I'll tell you... I'm not surprised by any of this happening. Neoliberal deindustrialization combined with 25+ years of Faux and Rush has led America to this. I even wrote a paper then that if America continued to allow these cancers to eat away at the nation. That by the 2020s, one would see openly autocratic rhetoric and policies being mainstreamed in American politics. I was right! The only thing I didn't figure was that the leader of such a movement for American autocracy would be of all people Donald F-ing Trump!? But then I do remember thinking that if an American autocrat comes on the scene. It's gonna be someone so pathetically buffoonish and morally repugnant that it makes the sane people of the nation, just stare in utter horror disbelief that anyone follows him!?

  18. I can relate.. I have been to Sachsenhausen concentration camp, which is in the town of Oranienburg, just a few miles outside Berlin. Oy, was that an experience I'll never forget. The thing that disturbed me the most was these small concrete buildings in the camp where they had once done medical experiments on prisoners. I remember going in there and only being able to handle it for just a minute or so, not even that.. The energy that came from that building was something I can't really even describe. I knew without a doubt truly horrific things had happened there... I am shocked and at the same time not shocked to see this anti-semitic poison slowly trying to trickle back into the mainstream. The generation who fought and destroyed this evil before (The Greatest Generation) are almost gone. and a famous quote in turn comes to my mind. It is from British historian Arnold Toynbee. "When the last man who remembers the horrors of the last great war dies, the next great war becomes inevitable."

  22. I swear, I now understand how the Russians felt with Social Democratic Finland beside them during the USSR. A better, more efficient system is 'literally' right beside you, and you can't have it because of the corruption of your government by the powered/moneyed elites. That how I feel about the healthcare system here in the US... DX This 'private only' system we have here is predatory, price gouging garbage!!!! And I HATE IT!! with a flaming passion!! And not cause it really hurts me that much. I'm a big fit healthy guy who's strong as an ox.   42. I remember when Obergefell passed in 2015. I was celebratory, yet cautious. I studied at Frei Universität in Berlin and my major is German studies. I learned how Berlin throughout the Weimar period was a bastion of sexual liberation, LBGT understanding and rights. (Ex: Die Institut für Sexualwissenschaft) Then with the rise of the Nazis, all of that was destroyed in a very short period of time! This has always reminded me that rights for minority groups are not set in stone. America is learning this lesson right now the hard way!
