  1. Tell me about it. I'm a German Studies major, lived in Berlin for a year in 2011. And I'll tell you... I'm not surprised by any of this happening. Neoliberal deindustrialization combined with 25+ years of Faux and Rush has led America to this. I even wrote a paper then that if America continued to allow these cancers to eat away at the nation. That by the 2020s, one would see openly autocratic rhetoric and policies being mainstreamed in American politics. I was right! The only thing I didn't figure was that the leader of such a movement for American autocracy would be of all people Donald F-ing Trump!? But then I do remember thinking that if an American autocrat comes on the scene. It's gonna be someone so pathetically buffoonish and morally repugnant that it makes the sane people of the nation, just stare in utter horror disbelief that anyone follows him!?

  2. Exactly, and this country has no experience with autocrats and dictators. (within it's own borders at least). And most American blissfully hold on to that comforting lie... "It can't happen here."

  3. I've been waiting for this kind of backlash since 2015 and the Obergefell decision. Fascist NEVER!! accept defeat on an issue! They quiet down and regroup and when they feel they got an opening again they strike back! I will also add that Weimar Germany had massive strides in LBGT rights all throughout the 1920s. But when the Nazis took over, all of that was destroyed almost overnight! In Berlin, the infamous book burnings you always see in photos consisted of books from the "Institut für Sexualwissenschaft" (Institute for Sexual Knowledge). Our modern American fascists are demonizing and vilifying the same exact minority group scapegoats and outside groups that German/ European Fascists did 100 years ago.
