This is a great idea - 20 years ago. Does anyone think there's now any faction in the Middle East that doesn't have access to SA-18 missiles, etc, or can get them? The Taliban or Iran will probably happily supply them. This could be good for some corner of Somalia, but maybe not, that country is something of a weapons bazaar.

@stikfigz I get that it has countermeasures, but they don't have a 100% guarantee. Also, it's slow enough that a manually aimed M2 .50 cal can hit it. Ditto for 20mm Oerlikon cannon, those things never seem to get scrapped. Yes, it has an armored cockpit and self-sealing tanks but even the original Thunderbolt got shot down in WW2. SOCOM will have to make sure of the threat environment before this is used.
