A battery of artillery would give the Russian military something substantial to strike back at. One that moved to the front would be noticed by spy satellites. These would be a high-value target for PGM missile strikes, with coordinates provided by the spy sats.

@jackroutledge352 Has it really gotten that bad? I know many of their capabilities have degraded but thought the spy sat capabilities (infrared, radar, and optical) remained at a usable level. I saw some good quality analysis recently that one of the Russian Army's problems was that the nuclear arsenal and space systems got funding priority. Well, whatever funding the army got was looted by Putin's buddies, so the same could have happened to their space assets. Yeah, Russia does appear to be quite low on PGMs. In my little scenario I figured an arty battery would get priority, though. It can be a nicely defined target, a high value one worth the warhead(s).
