  15. Because they have too work. Nobody likes long commute. Because there is basically no infrastructure. Because not every dacha is suitable for winter time. And buying wood or coal is quite pricey while central heating in apartment is affordable.

  27. Place is not as cold as you think. In southern russia we have palms, peaches and banana trees(they stay green because its hot but not hot enough). But despite that mosquitoes live across russia. They adapt to weather conditions.

  40. You probably would be interested in researching dachas of Soviet leaders. Stalin had a bunch of the all over USSR. Russian government still provide some officials with government dachas.

  47. Bunch of reasons. Often dacha is only suitable for summer (spring/autumn). People have to work. And commute to the city is problematic and time consuming. Senior citizens often move to dacha when they retire.

Back in ussr housing was re-distributed by government. It wasnt free like people like to claim but after working 5-10 years at some factory you could get a dacha or apartment.

  51.  @jimjones8808  Tough question. It heavily depend on location. But lets say its start at ~5000 usd. But you might find cheaper options. In more distant places. Some more modern and close the the big cities would cost you 25000-35000 USD.

  57. Why it is such a big deal? Some people buy a pump. But mostly they use standpipe or the well. In my dacha we have a well. Its ~30 meters away from home. In the morning you grab two 10 litre buckets and go get some water.

  63. Dude its russia. He has 2 homes probably because they inherit them. Also housing here more or less affordable. Especially if you earn money in USD. You can buy cheap house for 5000 usd. We also have 27 days of vacation. So you have time to work on your dacha. And also bunch of official holidays around the year. So like plus another 13 days. And you also have two weeks of paid sick leave.
