  2. Its a definite no. For OVERLORD, Montgomery undertook to get the allies to the River Seine by by D+90. He got them there by D+78. Bradley's subordinate commander never commanded in a major battle, never won a major battle.

  3. The time taken to capture Caen would seem to have been of little consequence, as the Germans massed their armour on that front before and after the allies captured that City. Cherbourg was a more important target than Caen.

  8.  @mike62mcmanus  The Canadian contribution to the allied war effort is well liked in Britain. Canada was in in it with Britain from the start to the finish, and they did wonderfully well in their mobilization of the Canadian war effort in numbers of people, and in production figures, as well as their valour in battle. The Canadian war memorial is rightly, almost next to Buckingham Palace. And, unlike a certain english speaking country that springs to mind, they do not try to ram their war story down our throats.

  11.  @silesianslonskoeagle  For almost any subject on the war in Europe, there is a Polish hard done by story, a vital Polish contribution story, or a Polish story about what Britain did to Poland during and after the war, posted by some Polish person, or some person of Polish descent. So dont tell me, let me guess... this the one, where but for the Polish forces, the battle in Normandy would have been lost. Never, ever, do these people mention that Britain (and France) actually went to war on behalf Poland, that Britain gave sanctuary to 200,000 plus Polish people, and then allowed them settle in Britain after the war. No, it s all about Britain and the supposed lack of recognition of the Poles in the Battle of Britain, Kaytyn Massacre, the death of Sikorski, 1946 victory parade, Sosabowski working in a West London factory, and so on.

Your father in Normandy should be grateful for be able to settle in Britain? Who can say? My father was in Normandy (My Uncle too, if you count the shore bombardment). So my father should have come home to find that some Polish bloke had given his job?.. The Falklands, they were all paid volunteers.
