@Romgenas I''ll add for the benefit of all the Russian bots on here that it was Russia's invasion of Ukraine that led to the overwhelming support for joining NATO. Finland's memory of having lost territory to the USSR is still strong.

@Romgenas There was no referendum. BUT there has always been a portion of the population that wanted to join NATO. After Putin's army invaded Ukraine this proportion swelled to inckude even those who were members of what had been the Communist sympathetic party. Gallop polls, letters to the editor, etc. showed an overwhelming support for NATO among the general population,. So popular support for NATO was clear. It might be added that parliament's vote to join did not result in massive protests but did result in a huge amount of support. So it might well be argued that on this issue there was no need for a referendum.
