  1. Looking at Autowit's website ( https://www.autowit.com/faq/ ) I see it can also charge from a USB power pack even if the car battery is stone cold dead. The faq indicates it takes 20-40 minutes to charge that way. The same faq indicates it will charge from a 12V power port ("lighter socket" for us old geezers.) I expect this product also eliminates the danger of connecting it backward if it is used the normal way, scavenging the unusable charge from the battery. If it is connected backward initially I doubt it will charge.

  2. Lead acid batteries can survive being completely discharged for short times as it takes time for the lead sulfate to crystalize, becoming unrecoverable. Sadly, once the battery reaches the condition that this device is needed it has probably either been that low for hours or is already defective. When I worked in communications/IT field support for an electric utility we often encountered dead batteries in remote devices. By the time we got to them, usually a day or more later, they were history - especially if the temperature was below freezing. On the other hand, ones that were dead less than half the day just got bumped up a few months on our scheduled replacement list.
