  1. Ah! This explanation clears up a lot. One of my concerns about autonomous vehicles is the problem of dealing with unusual emergencies. Imagine a truly self-driving vehicle in the wildfire shown in https://youtu.be/cI2sgyoiL1o The Toyota system (if I understand right) does not interfere with human understanding required to come out alive. Much better. I would also like to comment that the last two non-OEM replacement windshields I have seen (and one was a brand new one on a rental Sienna two years ago, and one was on our used 2014 Prius) had badly rippled areas. You aren't kidding when you warn about that.
