  1. The first generation Prius transaxles used type T-IV and have no dipstick. Even though the transaxle is very forgiving of wear, change the fluid every 50K miles. It does not burn but it picks up metal.

  2. I saw a transaxle oil change on a 200K mile first gen Prius with T-IV. Not burned, of course, but a shocking amount of metal sludge. Change that stuff!
