My own personal take on changing viscosity is that the original is probably best for the life of the engine (I know many people disagree- this is just my take on it.) Viscosity is selected to match bearing oil clearance; the new 0W-16 oil is really thin to flood the new tighter tolerance bearings. See https://blog.k1technologies.com/bearing-clearance-and-oil-viscosity-explained for an older range of clearances. There is a popular theory that the bearing clearances increase as the bearings wear, but I doubt that. I rebuilt an old Volvo engine with 190K miles on it and the clearances, according to Plastigage, were still in tolerance. All that said, the only difference in 0W-20 and 5W-20 is in cold viscosity, which is more of an issue in places where it gets really cold in winter. Once you get on the road it all becomes the same very rapidly.

Great advice! For hybrids, ChrisFix has a part of his video on replacing a 2nd gen Prius battery that addresses cleaning the hybrid battery cooling fan as well while the area is apart: https://youtu.be/Q3RCdrh666w?t=522

@TheCarCareNut I appreciate the info! I have not had a real answer to the question about break-in oil for today's cars. Not very long ago there was a recommendation not to use synthetic oil for break-in periods. It's hard to know what to believe.

@TheCarCareNut A friend fell into that trap. Had receipts for oil but nothing to demonstrate he used the oil in that car, or when.
