More or less if she had reached france, at that year allies had not enoguh air cover to keep the ship in port. It would have harassed the convoys, makign impossible for them to use the south routes. They woudl focus on north and then the gemrans coudl put all their uboats on north.. effectively that woudl result in a lot more tons sunk.

@davidfoster2629 Militarly you are right, but they could have political impact. Churchill position was fragile at that moment. If they had failed to sink the Bismarck after loosing hood and Bismarck managed to do a single heavy sortie against a convoy it might be enough to topple him. That could have impact in the war

@lostalone9320 Not so much.. Bismarck coudl have outrun ALL british capital ships capable of fighting it, except prince of wales and Hood (and well you know how that went). Nelson would not catch up with the bismarck that measn it woudl nto be available to sink it. British air force could not cover far into the atlantic were it was runnign to operate.. and you need to be a lunatic to send light cruisers to deal with a battleship. The bismarck had a reasonable chance of evading the RN ( it it would were not for the radio error of its captain) and woudl put quite some pressure at UK convoys.. forcing them to call back at LEAST 2-3 battleships from other areas

Rodney was a nearly useless ship due to its slow speed. It only managed to catch to the bismark because it was stuck with rudder activated.
