@Chuck_Hooks You realize tractors ARE targets in a war? Any machinery that can pull artillery , drag stuck tanks is an asset and WILL be shot by BOTH sides. Far less valuable than a tank, but it is still somethign both sides target when they see one.

Depends on a lot of external factors. For example.. if ANY conflict start around Taiwan, NATO has to withdraw most of its support for Ukraine and would be game over. OTherwise it can extend very well into 2024
25
To be honest they are takign a significant toll of losses due to Ukranian artillery. Seems Ukranian artillery is by far their best asset( and better used)
13
And for that reason the T55 is the most sucessful tank in history.. not because of its performance but because it was so simple (compared to other tanks)
11
Yes, but any war since WW2 have this type of results.
8
Any tank hit directly from above by artillery will be disabled. 152mm shells have a HUGE punch, they are 4 time smroe massive than 120 shells and even pure HE on that scale will hurt the crew.
7
It is critical for the Ukranians offensive. As it has a conjunction of roads and railroads. For Russia it helps them in nothing, but they need to keep it out of Ukranian hands as that makes Ukranians logistics far harder.
7
That execution of surrendering soldiers was messed up, hope the Russian command realize how dangerous for everyone (including themselves) is to have officers allowing such things.
6
Even better, send Italy to the allies, if they had to save italy as much as germany had it would be their downfall.
5
@31mAyMgaYanga Well they never stated that. They said 1 week. And they got pretty close, they faield to take 1 bridge before the ukranians blocked it and made impossible for Russiasn to supply their troops.
3
@princeo15 Another example that private entrepeneours are always superior to government structures.
3
some tiny slices of SP also get it
3
@farhan5647 You need a balance. A clueless crew will always fail, but even the best crew in a M-48 has no change against a modern tank.
3
It was such an unique incident.. that was the FIRST TIME ever that a plane crashed and in the next day the company that build it did not had a stock plunge.
3
Well modern warfare does use less men... that is a fact. Like 1/5th to 1/10th on the front (although more on the logistics)
3
What I expect is "fake ucranians" in these tanks. Something alike the Soviet pilots in Korean planes in Korean War. The ones operating it will not be ucranians.
2
@GGGG-jn7ib In fact no. the Abrams was designed exactly for GErmany, poland and Ukraine terrain. But the quantity is indeed too small. Ifyou have less tanks than the enemy has attack helicopters, you have a problem.
2
Depend a lot on the definition of winning. They can continue to exist as an independent state, but recovering Crimea as they wanted? nope... not at all. They do not have such capabilities.
2
@ABD5667 I think it is related to the lies about the WMD in Iraq, people do not like the idea of being sent to a fake war just for internal politics. It is not defending the country anymore
2
I think you really underestimate their experience on this type of conflict. IF one country can do it, it is them.
2
I think the fact that The Russian army wanted this victory as a PR thin might have resulted in more people knowing of it than they shoudl.. and information leaked in advance because Ukraine was very very prepared for it.
2
@chibuikeogba468 True, Russia did that in the start but west did that in the last month.
2
the 5 MTSA losses are more relevant than the terrain gained in these last 2 days.
2
The tiger missed the thrird shot because it was moving. Tiger had no stablizer. Real world a tiger would NEVER EVER shot while moving. EVER!
2
This is much older than Brics.
2
NikolaJokerMVP15 Their tactics are not that a bad, they jsut do not have highly trained troops to execute them well. But With a low number of soldiers they did manage to pull a lot of RUssian attention from other areas What they failed is to capitalize on it.
2
The only historical foundation is that concentrations of 3 times the number of attackers LOCALLY is considered the threshold for an attack being imminent.
2
IF you dit in a beachhead for more than a week without advancing.. it is not a beachhead anymore, it is a sloughterhouse
2
I would say in the current rythm, he has like 7 days at most. The russians do not need a complete encyrclement. As soon as they cut the last road they would force Ukrainian Army into a suicide corridor trough the open fields.
2
Their first crossing worked because they had surprise.. after that moment, such element was lost.
1
NATO is doing a bluff to see if Russia has a threshold after all they would accept to sue for peace, but I think they are underestiamting Russian stubordness.
1
"Journalists" enough said.
1
This war has not been that deadly. There is no way Ukraine lost 60% of its fighting capable men. Possibly the govenrment is having to ration the men drafted to not collapse the economy that sustains the war.
1
@rustysutton I really doubt these numers are true... this is not WW2.. yet...
1
@rustysutton yes but this war is closer to WW1 style and entrenched troops lose very little from artillery. As a general rule of thumb.. see the number side A give for side B losses, and HALVE it.
1
This war , tacticallywise is becoming fast, as revolutionary as WW1. It became the age of drones. One can be really sure US forces are already preparing a huge acceleration fo their own dronification even further ahead. We soon might see drones replacing several infantry tasks.
1
Most important question is.. do Stalingrad have alwasy on Epic music in background? :P
1
It is where the war is won and that is why USA army is so powerful, incredible logistics. And that is why just sending US weapons to other countries cannot match USA army capacity.
1
Is it inly me that think using bright yellow bands is detrimental to your camouflage?
1
@aboner2551 In US army where thee is plenty of logistic and peopel to do that yes. Ukraine is in a different scenario.
1
@aboner2551 I don't think the tanks that they are receiving are that modern The 2A4 is from thew 80's.. not so much automation I would risk to say.
1
I was thinking.. your last point about the small professional army not working in a conventional war.... it is really bad news for the NATO concept of eventually needing to fight China isn't it?
1
Now I understand! This war is about rescuing Poor t-34 stuck into war glorifying monuments!
1
IT would be way more realistic to be a panther at that date. And any reasonable german commander in a panther in that scenario would have eaten those shermans very fast.
1
Any comments how last week US officials estimated that Russia Lost 20 k troops int he war, but 3 months ago they were talking of 100k? Did Russians discover how to bring their soldiers back from the dead?
1
@lumenvitae4215 He meant the one that the bradleys killed short range
1
Well in war situation they can skip the shaving and toilet part...
1
Western world got into a fairy tale from the reversal of the first movements of the war. They decided that it was due to Russian incompetence and not because the Russians tried something so hard and decisive that it would have entered history if it had succeeded. They failed, but to fail in something no one ever was able to do since Germany against France does nto mean they cannot do something by the book. What I do not understand is why to sell a lie to the public? How does that help ukraine?
1
I think your analysis has some mistakes because od demographics. Gaza population is 43% males and avereage age of 17. Yes only 17. They have Much less adult males than you expect.
1
They could have won by not starting it. Germany after anexing austria and half of Czechslovaquia already had huge gains and had resources to be second world economy in 10 years....
