  1. Yes, but when you see that drill sergeant that is almost rupturing his throat just so he can sound louder than the other sargeant, that does not look professional . That excessive is a tad too much. The sergeant need to be tough, firm and loud, but he needs to show composture. They are professional. they need to look as know exactly when to shout and when to just speak loud and clear. Looking professional grows respect faster than intimidation.

  2. I do not think being hard is what people complain. But there are ways of being hard that convey the message and the teaching better than others. You can be demanding, and do it in a form that the recruit can focus on what he needs to learn not on your PERSON as a sergeant.

  3.  @CubeInspector  THat is NOT the point. Way to miss what I said. My point is that when the sargent tries to force the voice so loud that it FAILS, squaerks, or is clearly harming the sargent, that is detrimental to his image. BEign loud and clear only helps up to a point, anythign above that and you look cartoonish.
