Because in a true democracy like USA (as in where the votes are really public opinion and not influenced by external countries) the loss of soldiers is an electoral disaster. US government can never afford to lose tens of thousands of soldiers or they will not re elect.

@xabierpo1525 Point me then better ones. Because you can count in the fingers of one had the number of countries with absolute speech freedom, that is the most important factor in a democracy. I can think in Switzerland as one example that might be a superior democracy, but not any other.

@xabierpo1525 Nothing on that changes if it is a democracy or not. Do not confuse fairness with democracy. Rome has slavery and it was a democracy. GReek City states were the birth of democracy and.. again slaves. Slavery or stratification does not imply a non democracy. DEmocracy implies the power comes from a segment of the society deemed Citizens. That strata can be smaller or larger.

@gaarakabuto1 No. You are the one that is mixing concepts. Democracy is not a statement about quality of a society. It is only about the legitimization of the power imbued to the state. Do not Mix the concept of true REPUBLICAN values with democracy. Both can be combined but they do not necessarily need to exist at same time. Again democracy is not related to freedom, to liverty, to equality or to ANY other such values. Democracy is legitimization of the power imbued in the government.. ONLY THAT!

@das81 Compare to basically any other country in world. You can count on the finger of one hand places that are more democratic than USA. You have the most important factor of democracy.. total liberty of expression. Now compare to several other so called democracies where the fovenrment can censor the citizens... those are the pretend democracies.

@aldosigmann419 Again .. check against the rest of the world and you sill see how amazing your democracy is. Be glad you have the first amend... in my country judges censor you and put you in jail, in name of democracy, if you raise any doubt or make any critics.

Naa this will still take a long time. This cycle will not even before the new winter and at winter the front stops moving. Probably this war will take yet another year.
