This is where Washington becomes so critical and why there is him, Lincoln, and a bunch of guys afterward who held the job, pick the order. Washington knew everything he did was setting the precedent and he was in many ways the true father of the Constitution. He wanted it to endure so he did his best to avoid getting involved too deeply in the spat between Jefferson and Hamilton (though Jeffersonian historians may disagree) and he stepped down after two terms, discarding the notion that the states had removed one king and replaced him with another. Washington knew there needed to be a smooth, voluntary transfer of power in order for the Constitution to survive. Like his hero Cincinnatus, he would finally retire to his farm. King George the Third called him the greatest man in history when he stepped aside after the Revolution. Old mad King George was right. There are no more Washington's. Maybe that's why countless revolutions fail time and time again. Thanks for the video. Good stuff.
