Outside of wireless communication the U.S. Civil War contained all the elements put forth here as representative of modern warfare, so saying the Russo-Japanese War was the first is a bit disingenuous. One result not mentioned was the effect it had on U.S. thinking, specifically Roosevelt. After seeing how Japan's navy performed and understanding the geopolitical dynamics of competing interests in the Far East, Roosevelt pushed for an increase in naval spending and sent the fleet on a grand tour as a way to show the rest of the world, especially Japan, that the U.S. had become a global power. He predicted the U.S. and Japan would go at it at some point down the road.
