  1. My dad worked on the docks and knew the captain and several of the crew members quite well. He worked on the door fittings and other structural components in the late 60s and was a supervisor in charge of stevedores in Detroit at the time of the sinking. It really hit him hard. That was a sad day for sure. RIP gentlemen.
