I'm not a big fan of dreams for several reasons, but I do know a lot of my dreams center around some sort of unresolved problem/trauma/hang-up I haven't dealt with. I know this because they are either recurring in form or theme and they are left unresolved in my dream state until I resolve/get past whatever it is that's driving the dream in my waking state. As for the creative stuff, for me, writing is cathartic. I have written fiction and every character is imbued with one or more of my traits, kind of like spending hours on the couch without having to pay a shrink. I just thought was my style but then I saw an interview with Steven King where he said basically the same thing, that he is a part of all his characters. And the cool thing is, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, your characters will never hate you. That was an interesting talk. I like when Dr. Peterson gets on a role like that, almost a stream-of-conscience-connect-the-dots exercise in real-time.
