Couple of points. First, Japan didn't lean on Hitler to declare war on the U.S. and acquiescing to anyone wasn't exactly Hitler's style. He declared war on the U.S. with the false illusion that it would strengthen the alliance between the two nations and might even lead to Japan attacking the USSR via Mongolia which wasn't going to happen. Also, Chamberlin was hailed when he returned with that agreement. The British were not clamoring for war and they weren't ready for one. Not working to create some sort of mutual defense arrangement between Czechoslovakia and Poland was a bigger mistake. The Czechs had a decent army and Germany would have had trouble taking them both on at the same time.
