This is a rather homogenized account of The French Revolution that glosses over the bad and misrepresents the good. For starters, they make it sound like Montesquieu had some sort of active role. The problem with that is he died in 1755 and Spirit of the Laws, written decades before the revolution, played a larger role in shaping the future structure of the American system of governance than the French. There is no mention of Voltaire or Rousseau and the differences between their interpretation of the Social Contract (Compact) and Locke's. A direct line can be drawn from the French Revolution to other left-wing revolutions such as the Bolshevik Revolution that relied on terror, attacked traditional institutions, and devolved into tyrannical dictatorships. That is the true legacy of the French Revolution.
