  1. I gotta admit, when I heard Sheila was taking over from her mom I shook my head. But then as I thought about it, who else was available? Billy Jr? Another underwhelming son from a family with a long history of underwhelming sons, his father maybe the head of the bunch? Billy Ford treated the Lions as a plaything. I'm sure he wanted to win on some level, but losing didn't bother him near enough and if he liked a guy that guy had a job for life, or at least until Billy didn't like him anymore. Records and such never played that big a role. Sheila on the hand has treated it like a full-time job and rather than turn to the NFL and goodell for help, like her mom had tried, she dialed Chris Spielman, a guy she knew and trusted and more importantly a guy who knew the game and was personally invested in their success. He was a former player, but he was also a fan, and he felt a personal loyalty to the Fords for the help they gave him when his wife came down with cancer. That explains why he was so angry when the fans booed Shelia during the Calvin Johnson celebration at Ford Field. Really though, they were booing her dad, and Sheila understood that and stood there and took it. That showed character. She let the fans vent. Now? If that same ceremony was to take place today I'm willing to bet she'd get a standing ovation. A lot of owners would have bailed on Coach and Holmes when the team seemed to be getting worse the deeper they went into the rebuild but that day, when she addressed the press and said these are my guys, that was a turning point. I look at that as the moment this iteration of the Lions came into being. I was wrong about her, and I'll eat my humble pie alamode. I still wish she would lose that WCF patch on the uniforms but I get it, he was her dad and she is a Ford at the end of the day. But this is not Billy's Model-T running against Ferrari anymore. I can't wait to see her reaction when goodell hands her that Lombardi. It may not happen this year, or next year for that matter, but like this young Lions team, it's coming. Then maybe God will decide okay, you've seen quite enough, time to come home young fella. We'll see. In the meantime thanks Sheila, for proving me wrong. Now go tell that coach to bite those Packers kneecaps extra hard on Thanksgiving!
